The mother holds the boy that sleeps on her lap, caressing his small body with the tips of her fingers. Head turned to the right and gaze forward indicate that she is remembering sounds, possibly those that filled her own childhood and that begin to seem to her further and further away.

The need for contact and physical nearness that a baby requires from their mother surpasses even their need for food. Maternal behaviors of attachment and care of the child will create strong and lasting ties between the two, ensuring healthy growth of the child.
