The Cruz del Campo brewery was founded in Seville by the brothers, Roberto and Tomás Osborne de Güezala in 1904. In 1926, In 1926, the image of Gambrinus, a mythological Belgian king who is credited with inventing beer, was added to the brand.

Initially, the production was transported on carts like the one used for this engraving.
